The Lantern Image. Iconography of the Magic Lantern 1420-1880

The Lantern Image: Iconography of the Magic Lantern was published by the Magic Lantern Society in April 1993, to coincide with its Fourth International Convention. This is the first of the promised periodic supplements— a little later, perhaps, than was originally anticipated. The book catalogues, in chronological order, 297 images of the lantern published between 1420 and 1895 (one or two particularly seductive pictures tempted us into straying a little beyond our stated date limits). This supplement adds a further 88 images from the period 1727 to 1890.
